Ashley M.
Where do you work and what is your role in the company?
St. Anthony's Hospital, RN
How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way?
About 15-30 mins, 15 miles
What is your commute mode and what made you decide to commute this way?
Carpool with coworkers who live in this same area. Formed a carpool group to save toll money.
What do you enjoy about your commute (or teleworking)?
Enjoy the break sharing the toll and listening to podcasts or music I wouldn’t normally pick.
Do you have any interesting stories from your commute?
One time carpooling from Seattle to Tacoma, there was a flood on the freeway, and we saw a car flipped upside. Being nurses we had to pull over and check, there was a girl who managed to get out already and was soaked. Carpool buddy did a neuro check and called 9-1-1.
Do you think you save money by commuting this way?
Yes.
How does your company help accommodate your commute option? (ex: bike racks, free bus pass, vanpool subsidy, flexible work hours, telework incentives, etc.)
There are a couple carpool parking spots.
Is there anything your company could do better to accommodate your commute option?
I'm not sure.
What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a commute option other than driving alone in their car?
You save on the toll, gas, and we just do a rotation so like everyone takes a turn, instead of repaying one another. It really does save you money and it can be a quiet commute; we also get Starbucks before work. It doesn’t have to be uncomfortable.
