Where do you work and what is your role in the company?

Pyramid Communications - Specialist, Indian Country and Media

How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way?

30-60 minutes.

What is your commute mode and what made you decide to commute this way?

Currently I am in a hybrid working model. 3-4 days of the week I telework, but on the days, I go into the office, I either carpool, bus or bike depending on the weather and traffic.

What do you enjoy about your commute (or teleworking)?

The best part about teleworking is the ability to take walks during my breaks. It's a great way to stretch, take in some fresh air, meet neighbors and explore my community.

When commuting to the office, I love the bike ride. On a sunny day, Washington has some of the best weather in the world. From blooming flowers in spring to red leaves in autumn, the natural beauty of Washington State makes the commute most enjoyable.

Do you have any interesting stories from your commute?

One time when I was biking home from work, I met a few other commuters and we raced! Afterwards we exchanged contact information and since have gone on occasional bike rides.

Do you think you save money by commuting this way?

Yes! Working from home has been a blessing. I have saved thousands of dollars on parking fees, gas, and wear and tear on my car.

When carpooling or biking I know I am also saving money on gas/parking fees. If I had an estimate, I would say in the last year I have saved at least $2,500 on parking alone!

How does your company help accommodate your commute option? (ex: bike racks, free bus pass, vanpool subsidy, flexible work hours, telework incentives, etc.)

My job provides free ORCA cards. They also allow me to telework 3 days per week. These resources have been positively influential to my mental health. Less stress of sitting in traffic, more time enjoying the outdoors or being with friends.

Is there anything your company could do better to accommodate your commute option?

Our employer does a great job to help commuters by paying for bus and train fares.

What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a commute option other than driving alone in their car?

Carpooling, biking, bussing, and teleworking can be a fun option to get to work. It's a great way to get to know your co-workers better (especially if you are carpooling). Sometimes is fun to break out of the routine of daily work commute and try something new that could brighten your day!
