How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way?

A little over a mile. About 20 minutes.

What is your commute mode and what made you decide to commute this way?

I walk. It's only a mile and I enjoy the exercise.

What do you enjoy about your commute?

The streets I walk on are usually pretty quiet. It gets the blood flowing in the morning and lets me wind down after work. I don't have to worry about traffic or parking either.

Do you have any positive, interesting stories from your commute?

On clear days I get a nice view of the mountain. During some winter months, I can see the sunrise.

Do you think you save money by commuting this way?

I think so. It's probably only a couple bucks a week in gas but that adds up over the months. Not to mention the wear and tear savings on my car. Plus, the health benefits are priceless.

How does your company help accommodate your commute option? (ex: bike racks, free bus pass, vanpool subsidy, flexible work hours, telework incentives, etc.)

I don't think there's a need to accommodate my current commute. I haven't asked as there's nothing I need currently, but I'm sure if I asked for something, temporary or long term, they would do the best they could to accommodate my needs. They do provide a bus pass which I rarely use but it's nice to have just in case. They also allow limited telework option which I sometimes use as needed.

What do you recommend your employer did to assist your coworkers with their commute?

Offer flexible work hours or more telework incentives to reduce or eliminate drive times. Flexible work hours can also help accommodate for public transportation schedules.

What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a commute option other than driving alone in their car?

Exercise is great. It's good for the body and mind. Walk or bike if you can. Public transportation is another good option. I find walking much more relaxing than driving. Eliminating the inconsistency of traffic and the need for a parking spot is freeing.
