Brenda L.
Where do you work and what is your role in the company?
Pierce Transit transit operator.
How far is your commute? How long does it take you each way?
3.5 miles. 25 minutes.
What is your commute mode and what made you decide to commute this way?
Ride a traditional bicycle. I love to be outside and wanted to incorporate more exercise, and this saves gas money and mileage on my car.
What do you enjoy about your commute? Done Editing
I just love being outdoors and it is so fun to wave to all the other transit operators as I pass them on my commute.
Do you have any positive, interesting stories from your commute?
I am older than most of my transit operator friends, so I think they are surprised when they see me riding my bike. It seems to encourage others!
Do you think you save money by commuting this way?
Yes! I likely save about $20 per week.
How does your company help accommodate your commute option? (ex: bike racks, free bus pass, vanpool subsidy, flexible work hours, telework incentives, etc.)
I like the Amazon credits I can earn.
Is there anything your company could do better to accommodate your commute option?
People seem surprised when I tell them they can earn rewards. They could do more advertising.
What would you say to your fellow employees to inspire them to try using a commute option other than driving alone in their car?
I would say try another commute option, even if it's only once a week. It becomes a habit and easy to incorporate other options. And bike riding is just so much fun!
